Defensive Handgun Level 8, “Unarmed Partner Tactics” is dedicated entirely to working with a non-shooting (unarmed) partner. This class is dedicated to the couple, being husband and wife, significant others, parent and children, friends siblings etc… who will likely find themselves together in that tragic instant that the use of force/violence, specifically your handgun may be required to save your lives. I have thought for years that many of us train ourselves on how and when we will react to that violet encounter, but seldom give much thought to what our loved one(s) accompanying us may or should do, and what may actually the best way to protect them. Also, we neglect the fact that those loved ones, although they are aware that we train and do carry a handgun for personal defense, probably have never been around gun fire, especially in a close quarter’s environment.
As with all of our Defensive Handgun classes, this exercise will begin with an aggressive warm up of skills learned in the Defensive Handgun Levels 1 and 2 with the non-shooting partner in close proximity of the shooting partner. Then we will start explaining and demonstrating how all of the individual tactics learned in previous classes can used in an un-armed partner (1-shooter, 1-non shooter) scenario. Shooting on the move, use of cover and concealment, room searches, etc… all can be done with the safety of your unarmed partner an upmost concern. We will discuss and suggest several action plans, the importance of pre-planning and execution of those plans, and the importance and practical use of code words. Then we will start running drills and scenarios that will put these plans into use. Hopefully you and your un-armed partner will leave this class with a new found sense of accomplishment and expectations of each other, and your un-armed partner will be more comfortable being around a shooting partner. Who knows your un-armed partner may even leave this class with a new desire to possibly become an armed combatant.
The shooting member of each pair will shoot approximately 200 rounds through the 8-hour day. You must supply your own ammunition (minimum of 200 rounds) any hard ball full metal jacket, such as Winchester’s: White Box” ammunition is acceptable. No steel core bullets, aluminum or steel cased ammunition is allowed. Ammunition is available for purchase in the store.
As in all of our Defensive Handgun classes a good holster, belt, spare ammo device carrier (mag pouch), at least two spare ammo devices (magazine or speed loader, two or more is recommended) eye and ear protection for both partners is mandatory, you can bring your own PPE our borrow some of ours. To ensure a good instructor to student ratio this class is limited to 16 students (8-partner teams). Additional classes may be added if interest merits.
